February Challenge: 3D Nails

February Challenge Day 5: 3D

Today's nail art, 3D, leaves so much room for creativity that I had a little bit of polishers block. So many options! I decided to do something with fimo because I haven't ever posted anything with fimo on the blog! I love fimo because it's so easy to make a simple mani look fancy and awesome. I hate fimo because cutting it is a pain in the you-know-what. And if you buy fimo already sliced, it's ridiculously expensive compared to the slice-your-own-sticks. Therefore, getting the perfect slice on your own is probably the better choice financially! :) If you do buy fimo sticks, you just use a razor to cut tiny slices off. It takes practice and for every one good slice I got, I probably had two to three bad slices that I had to throw away.

Anyways, onto the idea! I really wanted to use one of my citrus fimo sticks. I finally settled on the idea of making my nails look like margaritas! I sliced my most limey looking citrus fimo and decided just to use it on my accent nail. But that wouldn't be 3D enough! So, I decided to use kosher salt to make them look like the rim of a margarita glass. I know, I know, salt would be completely impractical if I were going to wear these for more than a party, but I promise, they turned out looking really awesome despite their impracticality!

I began by polishing all of my nails with China Glaze Lemon Fizz, a fantastic creamy yellow polish. I then used Essie Mojito Madness and my gradient sponging method to mix the two colors into a margarita-ish color! Next, I added my lime slice to my accent nail with just a little bit of clear polish on the back of it. Finally, I swiped clear polish along the bottom area of my nail and dipped it into a water bottle cap full of kosher salt. I brushed off the excess salt and that's it! Enjoy! :)
