The Polished Bookworms: Big Little Lies

So if there's one thing I love as much as nail polish, it's reading. Aside from being a teacher, which practically requires a love of literature, I've always loved books as long as I can remember. An avid reader since a young age, I was thrilled when a fellow blogger began The Polished Bookworms group on Facebook. The group just started this month, so this is our first book post!

Here's how the group works: we choose a book and (shocker!) read it! Then we get to discuss it about two weeks before the end of the month, AND create a mani based on the book! Our first choice, from the fiction genre, was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. I LOVE dystopian fiction, so this book was totally out of my usual realm. Let me just say that this book was AMAZING. I loved every single moment, and Liane is a fabulous writer. I read it in two days...I practically stayed in bed and didn't sleep for two days straight! :P Twists, turns, everything keeps you guessing, and WHOA! bombshells. In short, the book starts with a murder investigation (but you don't know whose), and then goes back a few months to give you the backstories leading up to the murder. If you love to read fiction, you should definitely check it out.

Ok, onto the nails. I didn't dig deep for inspiration because, well, look at that book cover:

A shattering lollipop?! Totally awesome. Of course, I went to water marbling for this one. I used China Glaze White on White (white), Square Hue Flower Power (green), and Pipedream's On the List (pink), All In (blue), and V.I.P. Pass (purple). The green didn't show up in my pinkie and ring nails for some reason, so I changed the pattern of the bullseye for my next two nails and finally got it! Yay! Do you like to read? What's your favorite genre? Any recommendations for me? I highly recommend The Giver, which is my favorite book of all time. But don't watch the movie. It's absolutely horrendous. Instead, just read the other three books in The Giver quadrilogy. :) The Polished Bookworms are reading The Maze Runner next, which has been on my list for over a year! Color me ecstatic! Enjoy! :)

Gorgeous, right?! All of these polishes are sheer jelly holos with flakies in them! Such a stunning combo, let me tell you! All of these polishes was easy to apply! Everyone once in a while you may get a flakie sticking off your nail, but those are easily pulled or clipped off, or pushed back on with an orange stick! I cannot speak highly enough of these beauties! They are really beautiful indoors, and when you hit sunlight, BAM! They're full-force-in-your-face-awesome! You will not be dissappointed by this collection!

For the photos you see below, I did three thin coats, no undies, with one coat of Glass top coat. I also included a macro shot, but my camera, which is red, reflected in some of them. So just note that none of these give off a red hue. I'm still practicing with it to figure out how to prevent the red from showing up! All of these polishes will be $11.50 at release, and the full collection will be $62! Enjoy! :)

Breena is a sheer holo blue with pastel green flakies.

{Press Sample}

Mardi Gras is fast approaching, and ellagee has the perfect polish to go with it! Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler is a royal purple jelly base loaded with holo and metallic gold, purple, and green glitter in a variety of shapes and sizes. I especially love the gold holo circle glitter! I ended up doing three very thin coats to achieve opacity with this beauty. As is to be expected of ellagee, this polish was as smooth as buttah, and easy to work with!

Aside from being stunning, this polish will also come with Mardi Gras Doubloons, one of which will have a code on it worth money off of your next purchase of $10 or more! Some of these will have reallllly awesome codes on them! ;) WOOHOO! Buy all the ellagee polish! As if you needed another reason to snag this beauty...ellagee is about to retire some gorgeous polishes! Yup, that's right! Indie Spotlight: Big T Ranch

{Press Sample}

Sorry for my absence this past week! I was at a friend's wedding, and getting back in the groove since returning has been difficult! I think I'm back in the swing of things now!

I have another new-to-me brand to share with you guys today! Big T Ranch Soaps sells soap, candles, make-up, and nail polish (of course)! I have three polishes from Big T Ranch today, and they're all awesome and gorgeous! They can all be purchased at the provided links for $9.50.

First up is Heartless, a Valentine's Day color-changing thermal polish! This squishy, jelly purple base has purple, blue, and green holographic hearts floating around in it. Purple is the cold state of this polish, with blue being the warm state. I did three thin coats with top coat for the swatches, and a little fishing for the hearts was required. I LOVE the color change in this polish! It's such a distinct change, and both colors are beautiful!

Next up is Ocean, which is described as a green polish with tiny micro blue/green flakes. I'd have to say this polish looks more teal to me, leaning closer to a blue. It's also shimmery and the glitter really stands out. It's a really pretty color! I did two coats of this polish, with one coat of top coat.

My favorite of the three is up next! Ruby Slipper is a deep rosy pink leaning red polish PACKED with tiny silver flakes that make it shimmer like crazy! Ahhh, so wonderful! You know me, I love my pinks! This polish is STUNNING, even if you aren't a pink person. I did two coats, plus top coat. Enjoy! :)

Indie Spotlight: Parallax Polish

{Press Sample}

Are you ready for another new indie brand? Parallax Polish just burst onto the scene with some awesome polishes that are meant to bring awareness to research and ideas in science. As a teacher and science enthusiast, I think this is pretty darn cool! I have three of Parallax's polishes to show you today!

Climate Change comes from Erin's Controversial Ideas Collection. This thermal polish is packed with tiny blue glitter! The polish changes from white (warm) to blue (cool). Thermals can be hard to capture, but I just love them! I did two coats over a one coat white base. Honestly, I didn't need the base like I thought I would! This polish was smooth, easy to apply, and a fabulous color whether warm or cool. I couldn't capture the full shift, but it does get slightly lighter than the bottom warm shot in the picture below. This polish is $10 for a 14ml bottle.

Next up is my favorite, Helium! Hailing from the Noble Gases Collection, Helium is a glitter topper with red shimmer, red squares, and orange holographic glitter! This topper is so versatile and would look great over a multitude of colors. I swatched two coats over white and black to show how much the look can change based on your chosen undies! White undies were my favorite! Helium is $8 for a 14ml bottle.

Last, but certainly not least, Jahnavi comes from the DOOM Lab Collection. This gold polish with silver holographic glitter is simply stunning! I mean, she's really, really gorgeous! I did three thin coats alone for the photographs. Jahnavi is $10 for a 14ml bottle.

I'm really excited about Erin's brand! Be sure to check her out on Facebook and Instagram! Enjoy! :)
